As the world welcomes the New Year in with fireworks, celebrations and festivities, Egyptian Copts are counting their dead following attacks by callous Muslims.

Following New Year’s  midnight mass at the church of St Mark & St Peter’s Church in Sidi Bishr, Alexandria, a car exploded killing at least 11 and injuring 24, the numbers are expected to rise dramatically over the next few hours as Egyptian police are quick to forge numbers to appease the west. Nearly 1,000 Christians were attending the Mass said a priest at the church, Father Mena Adel.

“The service had just ended, and worshipers were leaving the building when the blast went off, about a half-hour after midnight. “ (ABC)

“I was inside the church and heard a huge explosion,” Adel told The Associated Press. “People’s bodies were in flames.” (APP)

The blast came from a car parked outside the church, but police said they were still investigating whether the car had been rigged with explosives or if a bomb had been placed under it. Witnesses reported seeing the charred chassis of the destroyed car, with the remains of several bodies nearby and dozens wounded. (APP)

Following the blast, witnesses said Christians were chanting; “We sacrifice our souls and blood for the cross”. (BBC)

At this time, we must not rise and fight back, for it is the Lord who fights for us, it is not our duty to kill and retaliate, our duty is to pray and die for the faith, the martyr is not the killer but the killed. Christ promised us that we will have tribulation in the world, but we must rejoice and be of good cheer for he has overcome the world!
