Governments around the world have begun condemning these atrocities in Alexandria Egypt.
American President Barack Obama Released the following statement from the white house
I strongly condemn the separate and outrageous terrorist bombing attacks in Egypt and Nigeria. The attack on a church in Alexandria, Egypt caused 21 reported deaths and dozens of injured from both the Christian and Muslim communities. The perpetrators of this attack were clearly targeting Christian worshipers, and have no respect for human life and dignity. They must be brought to justice for this barbaric and heinous act. We are continuing to gather information regarding this terrible event, and are prepared to offer any necessary assistance to the Government of Egypt in responding to it.
The United States extends its deepest condolences to the families of those killed and to the wounded in both of these attacks, and we stand with the Egyptian people at this difficult time.
The EU released the following statement
“The High Representative is deeply saddened by the news of the attack against worshipers at the Coptic Church in Alexandria that killed and injured a large number of innocent civilians. Catherine Ashton condemns unreservedly the attack against innocent Copt worshipers and expresses her deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims, and to the Egyptian Authorities. There cannot be any justification for this attack. The right of Christian Copts to gather and worship freely must be protected.”
The Australian government via foreign minister Kevin Rudd
The Australian Government utterly condemns the attack overnight against worshippers leaving a Christian church after a New Year’s mass in the northern Egyptian city of Alexandria, reportedly killing and wounding dozens of people.
We deplore the loss of innocent lives during what should have been a joyful time, and extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by this tragedy.
The Government calls for all those responsible for this heinous crime to be swiftly brought to justice.
The Australian Embassy in Cairo is in contact with Egyptian authorities in relation to any possible Australians affected in the attack. At this stage there are no reports of any Australian casualties.
More to Come!
