Feminism is often propagated as wonderful and enriching to society – often synonymous with equality – however this could not be further away from the truth. The origins of feminism appear to stem from this urge to have equality among the sexes – this weird ideology that man and woman can do exactly the same thing. But is this ideology even remotely possible and healthy?
Definitely not! Man and woman are inherently different, having different characteristics and roles. Man cannot give birth to a child for example, is this equality then? It goes without saying that if God wanted man and woman to be equal in everything then why did he trouble himself and create Eve in the first place.
We must know that Eve was created in the image and likeness of God. Like Adam, she was created for the purpose of knowing, ultimately knowing God. Thus a “True” feminism, therefore, respects woman´s essential identity as an image of God and that both Adam & Eve were created to compliment and complete each other not to do the same thing.
So the question must then be asked why feminism and Christianity aren’t compatible.
The answer is simply because they contradict each other. Along with rejecting Jesus, feminism rejects the Bible as the revelation of God because they wholeheartedly believe that it is a tool used to suppress women. Ultimately feminism is about the rejection of ALL AUTHORITY except that of the self.
This ideology which has become entrenched in modern day society has without a doubt affected women of all Faiths. One has to look at the quest of women to take on more roles of leadership in the church like becoming bishops and priests etc. They give no regard to the laws and doctrines of the church instituted by Christ himself– and if anyone dares to speak up and say how ludicrous this is, they are quickly labeled sexist and old fashioned.
It is time we quickly realise that Feminism is not bringing equality to the female race; rather it’s destroying the social and religious framework instituted by God some 6000 years ago.
One needs to realise that at the heart of feminism is this phenomenon that women “can do whatever they want”. Arguably this flawed mentality has led to the skyrocketing divorce rate in the western world, the infidelity and rampant adultery and homosexuality we see and the view that abortion provides women with the option to be independent.
Many women see Orthodoxy as a stubborn force led by men clothed in black who suppress the rights of women; they quickly begin to forget the Strong women of our Faith such as Sarah, Rebecca, Esther, Ruth Deborah & Mary.
They begin to forget the intense glorification and praise offered to the women who lived by the guidelines instituted to them by God. They forget the month of Kiahk which celebrates womanhood.
All these things become insignificant to the feminist, she is jealous of what man can do and forgets that she can do things that man can’t do.
As the old adage says the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Let us not be caught in this whirlwind of Feminism and realise that both sexes are wonderfully made, both equal in that they are ultimately created in the image and likeness of God, however they are very different in the roles they need to play for the ultimate purpose of doing God’s will.

Hello Bishoy Marcus, I hope you are well.

What is wonderful and enriching to society is that women are very positive contributors to human well-being and advancement. Typically societies that welcome women to equal positions are more advanced and their societies work better…much better. They add a warmness and positive energy to most situations. Feminism is the vehicle that is being used to try to bring about the opportunity for women to achieve equal positions and a place that has respect for them.

Feminism springs from a desire for men to stop treating women as sex objects and personal property. The desire to be on equal footing with men in the workforce and to be treated as an equal in all of life’s many roles, and disciplines.
There are women that want to be in the military and fly fighter jets, or work in construction and build dams or skyscrapers. There are women who want to do any job that men now do. And the thing is they can…and are often better than men. Who are we–that we think we know what’s best for them? Who are we to think we should decide what they can do-or think-or what dress to wear? They are not slaves and we do not control them. To think we are their lords and can command them to do what we will…is totally wrong, and the height of male arrogance.

This makes no sense at all. Are you saying that because God created man first that he is the boss of Eve and all men following are the bosses of all women?

Woman…IF she was created by a god…was to be a helpmate to Adam…not a slave and handmaiden…an equal; not to be ordered around and deprived of opportunities to live a full life by a jealous man/husband. She is entitled, by lone virtue of being human, to all the perks and chances a man receives in this world.

Well…that’s exactly what men try to do with the Bible and religion…it’s true and women naturally resent it. You would too if you were a woman. This world is not ruled by old goat herder’s patriarchs anymore; the Bible is simply not relevant with respect to how to treat women in today’s society. Women are equals.
You write:
“Ultimately feminism is about the rejection of ALL AUTHORITY except that of the self.”
Yes some women do feel this way, but it’s generally because they have been screwed over by very bad men and circumstances not of their making. How would you feel if you had been gang raped by several men and were brought to trial for being promiscuous and LETTING the men rape you…while the men went free? This seems to happen often in religiously controlled countries doesn’t it?

From what I understand about the church and treatment of women, the rules were made up by men of the church…not by God or Christ. Jesus seemed to be quite comfortable with treating women as equals in what I have read of his life. And yes if women are confronted with this old goat herder patriarchal mentality they can call you old fashioned and sexist, because that is exactly true. We do not live in that world anymore; we haven’t for many, many years. It’s time to let go of it.
Was/Is God a male or female…or neither?

Feminism IS bringing equality and a better way of life to women (they are not a separate race), at least in Western societies, as the societies realized years ago that women treated equally are a compliment to men and society, and their world simply works better with women at their sides…not under them. I really doubt that a God would institute rules such as that part (Middle East) of the world has in effect…you should look into some Biblical scholarship on the origins and interpretations of much of scripture. Do you believe the world is 6,000 years old?

I, and many many people like me, realize that women are free agents, they have free will, she can choose to like me and perhaps marry me…or not. It is solely up to them…not their father or mother or male cousin or brother. It is simply un-Christian to lord over a woman and make decisions for her against her will. Homosexuality has absolutely no bearing on this discussion as feminism has no bearing, that I’m aware of, on homosexuality.

That’s exactly what it is—stubborn old men, with a goat herder mentality who try their best to suppress women’s rights. Those old women of the Bible have no bearing on the plight of today’s women. Today’s women, in much of the world, are still fighting the same old prejudices and evil treatment from men.
You write:

Glorification and praise do not mean much to a woman living in manmade slavery. I am not familiar with the month of Kiahk, so of course I cannot comment on it.
You write:

I don’t think there is much jealousy involved…it’s more like a wish for equal treatment and freedom from centuries old bad treatment by men.

In this case the grass is certainly greener in Western cultures that allow women to reach their full potential and live in freedom…like men have enjoyed forever.
I realize your culture is entirely different and I can almost understand where you are coming from with your dependence on a 1600 year old book of myths and belief in a Chauvinist God, but our world really needs to change, and women need to be free of the old ball and chain that religion has burdened them with for thousands of years.
